small book big emotions

"I had not realised that this small book, bought for me as a gift, would make me think again.  The understated emotion evoked by the horses for their owners/riders/handlers throughout many wars, was news to me even though I have ridden all my life.  I did not know that certain horses had been given awards, or commemorated by special monuments, or buried with honours.  I was particularly moved by the more recent story of Sgt Reckless (pictured) in the Korean War of the 1950s and the service she gave to 'her' Marines and the honours they heaped on her - including a rank!  Inspirational.  I feel duly humbled that despite my lifetime around horses I had been so unaware .... I am now warmed and touched and see my horses quite differently.  Thank you for a wonderful small but huge book!!!!"
